My name is Lavern and I am the older brother you don’t know. Since I do internet marketing and website development, I offered to jump in and help my Dad and brother with their website updates and email list management this season. So here we go…

We are officially open for the season. It’s high time to get early plants, such as lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, and onions in the garden.

Once your garden dries off from all this rain, come on over and get all the seeds and plants you need to get your garden off to a great start. If you’d like to boost your yield a bit, bring your truck or trailer along for a scoop or two of mushroom dirt. Mushroom dirt is an excellent fertilizer / soil enhancer to put around your plants when you transplant or in the furrows when you seed. It’s a hot item and we get lots of good feedback from it.

I took the pictures in the slideshow just today. The greenhouse is getting lots of color with all the new blooms and the vegetable plants are thriving. If you are a plant lover, be warned—you may just leave with your back bumper dragging!

Geraniums responding well to the same treatment

Many of our Wave Petunias are getting leggy and tired looking from all of the heat with lots of watering. Don’t be too quick to throw them out, try a good hair cut instead. You will be amazed at the results in just a few weeks.

Make sure that you cut back on your watering until you get new foliage, as the bald guys don’t use up the water near as fast.  Do keep up with your once a week feeding and just water as needed and you should see a lot of new growth in less then a week.

As you can see the Superbenas and Geraniums are responding great as well.

The Dragon Wings Begonia are another basket that really does better with a light pruning as they are a fast grower. for those I like to just snip about 4 to 6 inches off of the tips. If you are careful you can do it without making it look too rough. It makes them get nice and bushy. Be careful about feeding the Dragon wings Begonia, as they get quite large.

Here are a few pictures of my first try at rooting some cactus. I’m really surprised that they are blooming so soon after being divided, but they sure are beautiful even though they only last for a few days.

As close as I can tell this is in the  Easter Lily Cactus family. I’m not sure which hybrid it is as it seems there are quite a few. If anyone has a name for this cactus I’d appreciate knowing what the correct name is.

A big thank you to all of you that shared your cactus collection with me plus all the advice on how to grow them. It really has been a lot of fun.

Hopefully I will soon have enough started to be able to sell some.

My Night Blooming Cereus is growing nice and making new leaves, and I’m working on starting some pink orchid cactus as well.

This weeks special, buy one get of equal value free! on all of our perennials including all of our roses.  We have a good selection of Hybrid Tea, Climbers and Miniature Roses. We only have one single  Knockout Rose left, so we are same as out of those. They have been our best seller by far.

We plan to have a large selection of double and single Knockout Roses in the spring, with some new colors.

We still have a large selection of Daylilies with twenty some different colors, plus many other perennials to make up some nice beds.

The Hibiscus is a very good choice for some height in the background of a bed. They get about three feet tall and produce a lot of large blooms.

We look forward to seeing all of you again.
